About this Plan

Speed Demon. Rubber sport model.

Quote: "Hi Steve - Here is the Speed Demon from Hobby Model Mfg. Co. This plan was a poor copy of a full size kit plan. The on-plan building notes are very comprehensive and worth reading. I have no information pertaining to the company nor the age of the kit. Perhaps someone can fill in the missing history on this little beauty. The number 15 on the plan suggests more designs from this company may be lurking about in dusty shop corners."

Hi Steve, FIRST OF ALL: THANKYOU!, THANKYOU!, THANKYOU! for the FANTASTIC model airplane plan site. I've been a rubber-powered model airplane builder since the War, and your site has kept me building and flying continually since I first came across it. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!! The submitter of the Hobby Model "Speed Demon" plan asks if anybody knows anything about the Hobby Model Manufacturing Company. I DO. From when I used to buy and build their kits at dime stores (never a hobby shop) during the War I've been interested in the company. Later, I collected their kits and had nearly their whole line of 58 kits. However, recently I downsized and put the kits in an auction. But all is not lost. I wrote an article on the company with color photographs of their box art ( beautiful, equal to Ace Whitman) AND 12 full plans; Some of these plans are great flyers. The article appeared in the "THE KAPA KOLLECTOR" number 79, March, 2011. (Unfortunately, KOLLECTOR #80 was the last one.) Do you have access to them? This is a goldmine of plans. Sincerely,
AlanMironer - 23/04/2015

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
