Starlet (oz4490)
About this Plan
Stolp Starlet. Radio control scale model. Discontinued kit, Graupner no 4642. OS Max 40 engine shown.
Direct submission to Outerzone.
Quote (google translated from the German catalog page): "The original STARLET aircraft is sold in the USA by the Stolp company as a kit in the experimental class for amateur aircraft builders. It is a single-seat, mixed-construction Parasol concept aircraft. Various engines can be installed for the drive, from the VW auto engine to the Continental with 60 hp. Due to its unusual shape, the wing has great airflow stability,
The flight model is reduced to a scale of 1/5 and, like its original, offers a wonderful flight picture. The model is controlled via aileron, rudder and elevator, as well as a motor throttle. According to the prototype, the model is not suitable for aerobatics. The construction is uncomplicated due to the largely prefabricated parts. The wing is constructed in one piece in a spar/rib construction. It is fastened with plastic screws via the plastic-injected wing counterpart on the canopy. The V-struts to the wing are made of extruded aluminum profile tubing.
Plastic forks at the ends shear quick clipping and unclipping. The hull is constructed in box construction. The side parts are punched out of plywood and specially reinforced in the relevant areas. A molded ABS plastic top shell simplifies assembly. The elevator and rudder are firmly connected to the fuselage. The strong steel wire undercarriage and the canopy are included in the kit. A tail wheel is provided at the end of the fuselage. With rudder and engine throttle, the model can also be controlled well on the ground. However, the model can also be safely hand-launched.
Landings should be on a mowed lawn or on a hard runway.
With the recommended silencer, the model remains largely free of oil residues.
Contents of the quick-build kit: Quick-build plan with RC installation, building instructions in German/English/French/Dutch with exploded views. Balsa and pine strips, balsa blanks. AIR-X wheels, steel wire chassis and canopy. Aluminum profile tubes, made of deep-drawn ABS plastic: fuselage upper shell, bonnet, undercarriage and wheel fairings. Backrest with headrest, windscreen dashboard. Adhesives, covering paper, decal, small parts and accessories for RC installation."

ScaleType: This (oz4490) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stolp_SA-500_Starlet
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Hi, I'm Awie Dreyer from South Africa. Just want to say, that the starlet looks like a great plane to build. I only found it very difficult with the German instructions. Is there a way that someone can translate the instructions for us please. It would be greatly appreciated. Ps, thanx for bringing new and more modern plans to the site, I really appreciate it. Kind regards

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
