About this Plan

Tempo. Free flight power model.

Quote: "TEMPO... a 'P'-model. In the late 50s attempts were made to introduce 'P-flight' [precision flight]. I have to confess, I know very little of this F/F class, however the basic rules were: The goal: Acheiving a flight of exactly 90 seconds from launch to touchdown. A perfect 90 sec flight gave 100 points. Each second of deviation up or down resulted in a 5 points deduction. Motor time should be set by tweaking the amount of fuel....no timers were allowed.

The F/F model 'Tempo' was designed by Terje Larsson, and a very complete 'beginner's package' consisting of a kit, glue, 2 books, etc etc, was sold through the clubs to a low price, due to the Tempo subvention/sponsoring. 'The Great Tempo Contest'" (a F/F 'P'-contest) was planned and advertised for, but AFAIK it never happened...(?) ...or possibly, became a flop somehow.

The model: The Tempo model however, was a successful design, and it soon became a very popular beginner's F/F model. The kit lived on for many years... The Tempo logotype followed it throughout its history, as a reminder of how the project started.

Here is the full-size plan in PDF, along with a build description, scanned decals, including the 'Tempo logo'.

Enjoy a bit of Swedish aeromodelling history... should by chance anyone wish to build this, here's all you need... A great thanks (!) to Bo Edstrom, who provided the scans..!!"

Update 22/2/2023: Added instructions, also decals and a wing rib template, thanks to Bosse.

Gluehand also posted a very useful link to the complete (Swedish language) build manual inc illustrations at http://www.svensktmodellflyg.se/users/6199/TEMPO_Sven_E_Truedsson_Modellflygindustri.pdf

FYI: "P-flight" is now named "Target Time". Used a lot on small fields and can be applied to most events.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
