About this Plan

AM Cabin Duration. Rubber cabin sport model.

Quote: "This little job is the result of an effort to produce a semi-scale model that would turn in fairly long flights, comparable with other duration models of similar size. As is only natural, the weight is slightly more, but as will be seen from the photographs, the plane is very graceful in appearance, compensating for this slight increase.

Construction of the model is quite strightforward, the only unorthodox part being the fuselage, so the building instructions need not occupy much space.

Commence by cementing formers No 3, 4 and 5 to the two side lomnngerons of 1/32 x 1/4 in, pieces of 1/16 by 3/32 being used to prevent them being pulled together until the remaining formers are in position. (See plan). Next comes the cabin assembly, and the other formers, followed by the..."

Quote: "scans of original AM Duration published in August 1941 Aeromodeller...they are page scans only, but as it was presented 1/2 F/S with F/S components it shouldn't pose any difficulties should anyone wish to build it. Hope these are useful."

Note this is not a fullsize plan, this is a scan of the original printed magazine pages [fixed now, see below].

Update: Added CAD redrawn version (as vector file and as dwg) of the plan thanks to OldPilot.

Quote: "Steve, Here's the 1941 version of the A.M. Cabin Duration... 1941 A.M. Cabin Duration Design Notes: These drawings represent my best effort to interpret the dimensional information and photographic illustrations of the 1941 A.M. Cabin Duration designed by W.A. Dean as it appeared in the August 1941 issue of The Aero-Modeller. In the absence of any detailed information about the aircraft, I've attempted to create a buildable (and hopefully flyable) facsimile of the original design. All construction details are based on my best interpretation of geometry, material thickness, composition, spacing, and reinforcement. I offer no guarantee of suitability. All comments and suggestions are welcome."

Update 30/5/2024: Replaced this plan with a clearer copy, thanks to AdrianCulf. Scanned from fullsize.

Quote: "Dear Mary & Steve, Please find attached the plan for the AM Cabin Monoplane OZ4190. This is a scan of a photocopy that I received from Dave Baker (SAM35, SAM1066 fame) some decades ago. Sorry, I was not able to stitch it together [fixed now]. This would be the purchased plan that is more detailed than the reduced scale magazine teaser."

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
