Quote: "Hi Mary, Here's another plan I drew... this is a builder plan of the Scientific Aircoupe that I drew up using a kit I found on eBay. It supplements the Forney Aircoupe (oz4055) kit instructions you already have on Outerzone. I've also included a scan of the kit decals and an image of the kit box.

There is some debate about whether it's an Ercoupe or Aircoupe. The Ercoupe was originally manufactured before WWII by the Engineering and Research Corporation (ERCO) hence the original name. After the war ERCO sales boomed for several years then dropped. ERCO stopped production after manufacturing about 5,000. For almost 10 years manufacturing rights for the Ercoupe passed through several companies until Forney Aircraft Company of Colorado bought the rights in 1955 and resumed production in 1958. Forney renamed it the Airoupe, but production only lasted a couple of years with 138 sold. It was likely during this time or soon after that Scientific issued their Aircoupe kit. In 1964 the Alon Corporation restarted production making 145 before being absorbed by the Mooney Aircraft Corporation in 1967. Mooney redesigned the twin-tail Aircoupe to become their single-tail Cadet. So, only the planes made by ERCO are considered 'Ercoupes' with those made by Forney and Alon being 'Aircoupes.'

Keep up the good work there at Outerzone. Regards,"

Note Have shuffled these files around now. The 'previous scan' version of this plan is now the 'instructions' file.

    ScaleType: This (oz4055) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ERCO_Ercoupe
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
