Junior Sailplane (oz3856) 1955 - plan thumbnail

About this Plan

Junior Sailplane. 20in span simple glider from Frog. Includes full printed instructions. Thanks to Gary Button in Australia for finding a 50 year old plan for this little gem, then getting it scanned and sent (to Mike at houseoffrog)...

Quote: "Building Instructions. This model is very simple to construct, the kit incorporating the usual Frog practice of supplying most of the parts cut to shape and numbered to correspond with the drawing, leaving very little shaping to be done..." This plan includes a tailplane template which is very nicely hand drawn, but it is missing the printwood for the ribs.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Update 15/05/2013: Thanks to DavidSommerfield, I have added a pdf showing the rib templates for this plan, as re-drawn by Mike Stuart and posted on his houseoffrog site.

Supplementary file notes

Ribs templates, re-drawn by Mike Stuart.

Hello Steve, I built two of these at different times when I was knee high to a grass hopper here in Aussie land down under. Both flew very well and I towed then on a cotton tow tine. They would always tow straight up to over my head. If anyone builds it, use light 1/16" Balsa for the tail plane, not the Medium grade I mentioned with the hand drawing I did. Very much enjoy the Outer Zone site Steve; I thank you very much indeed. Kind Regards,

Welcome to the new year folks. Here are a couple of pictures of my Frog Junior Sailplane [more pics 006, 007]. Now we wait for spring to trim and fly. Between your site and the FROG site, I got all the info to build the plane. Thanks for providing an absolutely phenomenal site.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
