P-51D Mustang (oz3633)
About this Plan
P-51D Mustang. Control line scale WWII fighter model, with removable landing gear.
Quote: "Control line P-51. Fast maneuverable and easy to pilot, this 32 inch Mustang gas model features a novel removeable landing gear, horizontally mounted powerplant. By Larry Eisenger.
The mighty Mustang, prize USAAF escort-fighter, fighter-bomber and reconnaissance craft, proved itself as one of the world's most deadly and versatile fighters of the war. Extensively used in the ETO where, working hand in hand with the P-47, it provided air cover for our heavies, gave ground support and occasionally toted a camera for photographic missions, the Mustang's reputation as a killer spread to the Pacific during the closing months of the war.
Designed and manufactured by North American Aviation, the P-51 series have steadily been modified since the first Mustang made its debut in the middle of 1940. Intended for strict low level army co-operation work, the flight characteristics of the early powered Mustangs were so promising the more powerful Rolls Royce Merlin engine was installed. This modification was largely responsible for the 51's tremendous success as high or low altitude pea-shooter.
The general design of the Mustang is well suited for a super control-line model. After conducting a series of experiments as to the ideal sire of scale control-line models, it was decided that a wing span of 32 inches would result in a fair sized model sufficiently small enough to be capable of taking Class A and B engines and still fly at a good speed in windy weather. Like most scale control-line models, our Mustang was not designed to break any speed records - exact scale duplication and consistent flying was the major objective..."
Quote: "The designer of the plan is by Larry Eisinger & the year of this article was in April 1946 & that the publisher was by Mechanix illustrated. I hope these plan & doc are ok , the original plan that I have still got are getting very fragile & to handle now so it might be very difficult to scan again."

ScaleType: This (oz3633) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_P-51_Mustang
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
