Fatso (oz3481)
About this Plan
Fatso. Free flight sports model, a canard pusher, for the ubiquitous .049 engine. This plan was printed in Flying Models Decade of Designs (1), published 1960.

Like most model builders, we like to be different on occasion - so we decided to build a 'canard' for a change. This type of model has exceptional stability, which makes it ideal for sport flying. Want to try your luck with one of them ? Then why wait?
Fuselage. Start by laying out the sides of the plane, following the dimensions shown on the quarter-size plan. Mark the position of the bulkheads on the sides, so that you can align them properly. Cut all of the bulkheads so that the grain is running vertical to the fuselage sides, then cement them into position. Complete the basic structure by planking the other two sides with 1/16 in sheet.
Bend the nose gear, following the pattern shown on Plate 2, and mount it in position. Cement the nose block over the gear so that it is sandwiched be-twe'en the block and bulkhead 1.
Finish the fuselage by cementing the pod bulkheads (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10) and formers (11, 12) into place. Note that bulkhead 10 is made from 1/16 in sheet balsa. Use the same pattern to make the firewall, using 1/16 plywood. Sand-wich the rear landing gear in position as shown.
Plank the entire pod with 1/32 sheet balsa. Be sure to leave a hole near the engine to allow air to enter..."

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
