Under the present rules the Unlimited Rubber-powered model is truly a model flyers' dream for there is no restriction to size, weight or power. In fact the rules, are so liberal that the designer has to be careful to prevent making a model which is too hard to adjust, a real light ship with its associated problems, or a complicated gear ship. He might even be tempted to build something along the lines of old-style rubber ships used for Wakefield a few years ago which were not only difficult to adjust but also blew out of sight quickly in windy weather.

The 'Specialist' was designed for simple construction with ease of flight adjustment. It has proved to be an excellent contest model for it is actually a more powerful version of our 1956 National Model Airplane Championships winner. The four ounces of rubber which this ship uses for power, when fully wound, lets you know that you have an honest-to-goodness rub-ber ship and not a powered glider such as many of today's Wakefield ships. Why do we call it the 'Specialist?' We call it that because its specialty is a high climb into the thermal-hooking territory which leads to winning contests.

Everyone has their pet parts and prefers to start construction at a different point. We prefer to build wings so we start there first. If your choice is different, pick it out from the following paragraphs.

Wing: A rib template should be made first. Use plywood or aluminum for this and make it accurate for uniformity of ribs..."
