Quote: "A little extra stunt-ability built In never hurts. Try this relay or rat racer - potent performance. Inside, outside loops, eights and inverted flights. Tor-Rat, by Larry Scarinzi.
It was about 2:00 AM one cool summer evening, when John D'Ottavio, my 'partner-in-crime' on this design, and I were sipping coffee and discussing new model events. Having done a lot of flying at Rich's Hobbytowne of Parsippany, New Jersey, we talked over an original event, proposed by 'Rich' called TOR Racing, which is a relay event. Each member of a four man team is required to fly his own model a specified number of laps or more. It is for this event that this model was originally built.
Timing your fuel consumption so the motor will cut after completing a specified number of laps is important, as no cut-offs are allowed. The first team to complete the specified requirements wins, of course. The purpose of this event is mass participation, as almost any model can be used. (For those interested, rules may be obtained by writing to Rich's Hobbytowne, Rt 46, Parsippany, New Jersey)
This was a Monday night. On the following Sunday we had two 'TOR-Rats' ready for flight. Our own hit an even 100 mph on its maiden flight, which isn't bad for stunt fuel and 9/8 prop. Both of us are brand new to rat racing, and being basically stunt combat flyers we incorporated some extra maneuverability in the model. The model is capable of inside and outside loops, horizontal eights and inverted flight.
Speed flyers, please don't be over anxious to snicker at the bulky airfoil used. It is an advantage to have enough 'wing' to fly high and pass your opponent without having the model sag and loose speed at higher altitude. This model will turn tight circles up top and stay with many combat ships. There's enough lift to glide in for pit stops or to get you out of many hazardous predicaments that would otherwise be fatal..."

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
