Anderson Pylon (oz3164)
About this Plan
Anderson Pylon. Free flight power model. Wingspan 43 in, wing area 288 sq in, weight 16oz. For Cox .049 power.
Quote: "Here is an Anderson Pylon, 1/2 A Texaco FF. The lender of the plan built the model many years ago and recalled it being a great flyer. I believe the plan to be circa 1980. The photos of an electrified Anderson Pylon were gleaned from an RC Groups thread. This cleaned and restored plan should serve well in duplicating this classic model."

MANY THANKS FOR MAKING THIS PLAN AVAILABLE!! I am a pensioner, and not able to afford plans and ARF models. I use Meranti wood for modelling, and a 4 foot long, 6 inch wide, 1 inch thick strip supplies enough timber for a number of aircraft, without breaking the bank. You have brought happiness to at least one modeller, and I thank you again for it. WHAT A FANTASTIC PLANE!! I have just built a "Playlon" (Cross between an Anderson Pylon and a Playboy, with abject and humble apologies to both designers) The Fuz is built of Meranti wood, with some extra crossbracing to take the shock loading of my indifferent (politely!!!) landings. I added 4 extra bays on the wings, and enlarged the rudder by 17%, and elongated the nose by 1.5 inches. This is to maintain the wing loading to roughly what is on the plan, increase the manueverability, and to maintain the CG respectively. It is powered by a Turnigy Park 450 outrunner, has an 8 x 6 folding propeller. Electrons are supplied by a 1600 mah 3 cell Turnigy Lipo. This is what I had available. I find the plane to have faultless handling, absolutely no tendency to tipstall, and to have a VERY, VERY long, slow glide without power. Under power, it is slightly overpowered, and due for a change to an 8 x 4 prop, but I can increase the power to maximum without the problem of an exaggerated climb, I in fact have to give it slight "Up" to take full advantage of the power. The handling is a revelation, and the oversize rudder is unnecessary. I have adjusted the end throw to a maximum of 1/2 inch either way, and find this sufficient for an untidy roll at full throw. The elevator I decreased by 5% mm, but extended it to one piece, instead of the two shown on the plan. I am going to make 2 inch airwheels for it, using circular rubber strip for tyres, and plywood for hubs.marht1 - 07/03/2013
I have the kit. I can photo copy the smaller wing and stab ribs in case you want something more precise than going with “typical” ribs.

Fair point. Have set this as incomplete now.

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
