Russkie (oz3100)
About this Plan
Russkie. A 43 inch span Wakefield Rubber competition model. Model Aircraft April 1957.
Quote: "A proven design to International Wakefield formula. Russkie, by W Pullen.
THE first Russkie had a parasol wing and was built in January, 1956. It showed excellent possibilities, virtually flying off the drawing board, and had an exceptionally flat glide. The CG was quite a way back, but when the model was modified to shoulder wing, the CG was moved to 50 percent of the chord and the slight trimming troubles which had been experienced at first then vanished.
It was in this trim that the new model was flown in the Gutteridge Trophy, and after completing six consecutive maximums it placed an unlucky second, losing by only 18 sec. The last flight in the evening in cold, dull overcast condition, was 4 min 12 sec, indicating a reasonable still-air performance.
Fuselage. The fuselage sides are cut from medium 1/16 in sheet, splicing the joints and reinforcing; 1/8 in sq is placed along the edges of both sides, formers X and Y are added, and the fuselage completed in the usual way. Construct the fin as shown, leaving the leading edge and mainspar over-length to cement to the under side of the fuselage, entering by two holes made in the upper side. Cover the fuselage and fin with Modelspan, doping on the fuselage tissue with a rag. Cover the fin, fix wing dowels and give one final coat of dope all over. Bind the undercart leg to the inside of the fuselage.
Wing. Construct in the usual way, building up the main-spar in one length, with the dihedral built in. splicing and bracing the dihedral joints..."

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
