About this Plan

5 Giant Steps, Project 4. Built up rubber model. This is part 4 of 5 parts in the MAN beginner course titled '5 Giant Steps' from 1961.

Quote: "This is an aeromodelling course. It includes five models from the simplest glider to an engine powered free flight model. It was designed by the late Peter Chinn for 'Model Airplane News' and published in 1961. The models are beautifully conceived and they all fly extremely well. The engine powered free flight model is really nice and out of the rut of the common sports FF model. It can be enlarged for radio control operation. This plan has been solicited in the past and it seems to me it was quite difficult to find. Enjoy and greetings from Colombia!"

Hello sir - I am Prabal, 14 years of age, from India. I have built this aircraft from your website: "5 Giant Steps, Project 4". It flies wonderfully and is an excellent summertime project. It was for our Solar Aircraft Competition. I am attaching few images [more pics 003, 004]. I wish they be included along with the basic aircraft picture. It was scaled to 46" wing span.

Thank you Prabal. It's great to hear that young people are still interested in scratch-building, and fascinating to see how new technologies - like solar energy - are being used alongside the 'old' skills. If you have any more models built from Outerzone plans, we'd love to see pictures.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
