About this Plan

Pluto. A 32 inch span Class A C/L team racer. Nationals winner, 1954. From Model Aircraft, May 1955.

Quote: "PLUTO is the result of 15 months work on a high aspect ratio team racer design, and is the eleventh and most successful variant of the lineage. Originally developed from the class B version by Dick Edmonds of the High Wycombe club, the A design had its first airing at the British Nationals, where Edmonds and Lee placed tst and 2nd, culminating in a 1, 2, 3, 4 placing at the All-Britain Rally.

As is generally known, we at High Wycombe are 'Oliver' conscious, and Pluto was thus designed around the superb Tiger 2.46 cc motor. The model's sixteen places in eight finals fully justified our faith in the engine, and at the same time provided ample proof of Pluto's consistent performances in top class team racing.

The A model is four to five mph faster than the more conventional design using the same motor, and the B version 8 mph faster. The gain can be attributed to a smaller, low drag fuselage, a more efficient wing, and correct rigging angles and pivot point position in relation to the C of G.

Commence by cutting the crutch from 1/4 in sheet. Recess the sides for the engine bearers and cement bearers in position to suit the motor used; drill bearers and bolt motor in position. Now pack intake and exhaust ports with tissue to prevent dust entering the motor..."

Update 11/05/2014: Replaced this plan with a clearer version on white background, thanks to stormin.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
