Red Zephyr. Free flight gas model.
This plan is stamped "An Uncle Willies Plan". The legend at the lower right corner says: "Red Zephyr. Kitted by Scientific Model Airplane Co. Drawn by Phil Bernhardt. Span 73.5in, Area approx 664 sqin, Length 56in, Power Brown Jr."
Added an additional version of this plan, showing the full wing layout, courtesy of pd1.
Note both of these here planfiles are clearly derived from the Phil Bernhardt drawing that appeared in MB June, 1974.

My favorite Red Zephyr story is from about the time of the 1993 US SAM Champs held at Taft California. I think the designer of the Zephyr was at the Champs that year, but I could be wrong.Earlier in the year two long time flying buddies from Fresno California had built two Red Zephyrs. One of the builders was future SAM President Bill Booth. The other was Jim Crockett--who manufactured the "Crockett hooks" so loved by the flyers of OT rubber models. Bill and Jim planned for a "formation takeoff" of their two free flight Red Zephyrs at a spring contest at Taft that year. One Zephyr had the legend "His" on the upper surface of the wing. The other Zephyr bore the legend "Mine".
Well "His" and "Mine" were fired up (both powered by spark ignition engines) and launched side by side. Disaster ensued. About 30 feet above ground, "His" turned left--and flew through the side of "Mine". Or maybe it was the other way around., The result was one completely destroyed Zephyr--and the other didn't look so good either.

Mike Myers, I was at the Taft SAM Champs and yes, Herb Greenberg was there, I think there was a celebration with John Pond there presenting an award, that was my first Champs.

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
