Dominator (oz2605)
About this Plan
Dominator. Control line combat model.
Quote: "A 28 inch wingspan control line combat model for 2.5 - 3.5 cc engines. Designed by Mike Davis.
Commence 'Dominator' with the engine mounting pod so that it can dry whilst the wing is being assembled. Shape 1/2 in sq engine bearer and chamfer inside faces for Oliver Tiger crankcase. Then cut the 1/16 plywood and 1/4 in sheet sides and white glue 1/16 plywood sheet to bearers, also nail in place with small panel pins. Drill 6 BA engine mounting bolt holes 3/32 in and screw bolts in place with large washers under the heads to prevent them pulling through bearers.
Next, cut out 1/2 in sheet cover to clear bolt heads, then glue in place and clamp in a vice until dry. Cut the tank from timplate and solder vents anfd filler pipes as shown in the sketch, accuracy is essiential here..."
Quote: "Here is a combat model from the 60s designed by Mike Davis. The model won the 1965 Criterium of Aces, flown by Pete Smith. I flew these models in competition in the 60s".

Flew these back in the 60s & 70s! Set up right they are a great flying model. Can only recommend!Bob. Ward. - 11/05/2019
My Dominator [main pic] is OS 15 Max II powered. I've added geodetic struts to strengthen the wing a bit, and an aluminium shield to protect the needle valve. The covering is Ikarex and it's 424 g (15 oz) ready to fly... Kind regards,

My first Dominator lasted 10 months (it's the purple and black one in the photo). They're such fun I built another one, this time with an OS15 LA-S. I also made it brighter so I could see it better!

Nice realization. Also, now some modelers are building them with an electric motor. I bought one in electric and it works well.

I built my second Dominator in 1974 whilst I was an RAF Apprentice. It was powered by a PAW 19DS and flew very well I still have the airframe which, is undamaged. I now want to build a new Dominator, covering it in Mylar and coloured tissue.

South Bristol Model Aircraft Club have been running a competition for the Dominator for two years. Only Oliver Tigers and PAW engines are allowed and no new fast clones. It’s been very successful even restricted to club members.

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
