Hi Thrusty. PAA Load FF powered by Jetex motor, from American Modeler December 1958.

If you do want to compete, select your wood carefully, and go easy on the dope, for your finished model should weigh no more than 5 oz. The Jetex power unit has been mounted high on his model to prevent looping tendencies especially near the end of the jet run when thrust is very high, yet still allow the best possible adjustments for a fine glide. Hi-Thrusty's fuselage, the minimum under the rules, has a cabin housing the Dummy, windows and a windshield for him to 'see' through - as required in the rules.
With this type of power plant you don't have to worry about fuel soaking, so there is no need for fuelproofing. While the jet thrust does not last long, it will push the model to a good altitude, where the large wing area produces good soaring flights. Because of its gliding ability, it is most advisable to fit a dethermalizer.
Although flight tests were conducted with the Jetex 150 Jetmaster power unit, Hi-Thrusty performs even better with the newer Jetex PAA-Loader jet motor. If you use the latter, modify the pylon and mount the unit in the same position as the 150.
Construction may be started with the wing; cut all ribs. Be sure your W1 ribs are all alike by stacking them up side by side and sanding across all at once; the slots for spars should be cut at the same time. Note that the upper forward portion of the ribs is 1/32 lower than the rear 2/3 of the ribs to allow for the leading edge sheeting. Cut and sand the ribs for the tips in pairs. Assemble entire center section of wing, as far out on both sides as the dihedral break..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
