Denight Special (oz2479)
About this Plan
Denight Special. Profile scale racer for control line.
Quote: "Denight Special for Goodyear Profile Class.
Third man in our Goodyear race trio on the July American Modeler cover was the Denight Special. Space limitations did not permit presentation of the model plan. So to satisfy all you cliff-hangers, here are the drawings for Bart Denight's little pylon-polisher. The model design follows the requirements for the profile midget racers set forth in July AM, and will make a colorful addition to your yo-yo race starting line.
Construction follows the same pattern used on Bonzo and Little Toni. To re-view briefly: Wing can be built either of two ways. It can be solid 1/2 in plank, planed to taper and airfoil section, or built-up with 1/2 in leading edge, 1/16 sheet skins top and bottom over 1/2 in sheet ribs. Dihedral is optional, so if built flat by either method, no dihedral joiners are necessary. If dihedral is used, wing is built in two halves and joined with a 1/4" plywood joiner.
Tails are all 1/2 in sheet balsa. Elevators can be joined with a hardwood spar or a small Veco wire control horn. Hinges are fabric Z-type.
Fuselage consists of 1/2 in plank with 3/8 x 1/2 in hardwood engine bearers inlayed between 1/16 plywood nose doublers. Landing gear is two-piece wire joined through tubing at top and held to fuselage sides with clips and bolts through fuselage.
If you wished to save a few ounces of weight to help boost the speed of your profile midget, construction could be varied somewhat from the simplified slab-type shown on the plans. First, use the built-up wing construction. Second, cut several 1 in diameter lightening holes in the fuselage plank aft of the wing leading edge. Then cover both sides..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
