About this Plan

Tee Dee Bird. Free flight power model for Cox Tee Dee .010 engine. MAN June 1961.

Quote: "First of our models with a Cox Tee Dee engine, this one the .010. The amazing performance of this, the smallest of production engines, required a bird to match its performance. We have with this excellent free flighter.

When I first saw the Cox .010, my thoughts were for a ship using micro-film construction. After running the motor, it was obvious that solid steel wouldn't hold this baby down. The Tee-Dee Bird evolved in the following manner:

I wanted a rugged sport job on which I could fully test the .010, yet one that would still retain sophisticated lines and give good performance. Since I happen to live east of the Pecos, where elbow room is at a premium, I did not want a floating glide. Thus, the wing area was held to 120 square inches. The motor pod mounting is used to keep the motor away from Mother Earth during the testing period. The fuselage is rugged and simple and can be abused to the satisfaction of any combat flyer. The wing and tail construction is extremely warp free and will hold up very well, should the plane decide to spend AWOL time in a tree. Weight for this ship is no problem. In fact, I have a sneaking suspicion that she could stand an extra ounce or two for flying in restricted areas.

If you're an F.F.F. (Frustrated Free-Flighter) living in a suburban area, this ship is very generous to turn adjustments. For small lot flying the Tee Dee Bird can be adjusted for 30 foot circles in both climb and glide, and since it will weather vane (big rudder) even if the wind kicks up a little, you're still in the ball park. Right here, I want to say if you are one of those guys who can't help but fill up the tank and let her go, don't build this ship..."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
