FW-56 Stosser. Peanut scale rubber powered model.

Wing: Cut pieces W-3 through W-7 and pin in place. Cut leading edge pieces and spars and pin in place. Cut wing ribs W-8 thru W-11. I used sheet for ribs, tips, and trailing edge pieces. Note: W-10 ribs are all cut the same. Trim them to correct length when gluing in place. After drying prop up wing tips to proper dihedral angle and glue. After drying remove completed wing and blend ribs into trailing edge. Sand leading and trailing edges to proper airfoil shape. Note: if you cover the wing at this time leave the top centre section (flat portion) uncovered to aid in final assembly.

Stabiliser: Cut tips and rear centre piece from V, sheet and carefully pin in place. The rest of the framework is made of 1/20 x 3/32 and 1/20 x 1/20 stock.

Rudder: Cut outline from sheet or laminate from 1/32 x 1/20 strips. Rudder is then built as part of the fuselage.

Fuselage: I built my FW56 using mostly 1/32 sheet. In the fuselage, the keel pieces K-1 thru K-5 were cut from sheet. Fabricate upper keel K-1 thru K-4. Glue K-5 to upper keel K-1 thru K-4 by using 1/32 x 1/8 pieces placed behind the F-1 and F-10 former positions. Remove these pieces after installing formers and stringers. Cut all formers F-1 thru F-12 and F-13 and F-14. Install F-1 thru F-10. Make landing gear sandwich from L2, L3, and L2 and wire landing gear. When dry insert between formers F-3 and F-4 at proper elevation.

At this time carefully assemble F-11. 12, 13 and 14. Glue F-13 to F-12 then glue F-12 to K-5 and F-13 to K-4 as shown on plan. Split F-14 as shown and glue to K-4, F-11, and F-12. Glue rudder outside form to F-12. Add the rear portion of F-14 between F-12 and rudder and R-1 a piece of 1/32 x 1/20 balsa.

Now add 1/20 square stringers to both sides starting with the second one from the top. This one runs from F-1 to F-9. Next add 3rd stringers (3rd from top) and top stringers running from F-1 to F-12. When all stringers have been added cut F-1 to receive nose block plug.

Carefully bend W-41 wires (one right and one left). Tie with thread to top stringer and glue to stringer and to F-5. W-41 top wire fits into front wing spar. Test fit at this time. The rear part of the wire fits to rear spar.

Add a scrap piece of 1/20 x 3/16 x approx 9/16 long on either side right behind F-10 for motor pin (or peg). Fuselage can now be covered. Leave bottom open from F-10 to F-11 for rubber motor installation.

Assembly: Cover all parts except top centre portion of wing. Glue wing to fuselage struts W-41. Use thread to tie to rear spar. Glue generously. Check alignment with fuselage and adjust as necessary. After dry, cover top centre section of wing. Glue stabiliser in place. Add landing gear struts L-1 trimming to fit at joint with fuselage tissue. Make wheels as shown. Build and attach wing struts as shown on plan. Add tailskid. Make nose block and plug as shown. Drill V, hole for thrust button.

Power: Use a Peck Polymers 4 in plastic prop and 1/8 dia thrust button. A 9 in loop of 1/8 flat rubber is used for power.

Finishing: The heading picture here shows the Stosser in overall silver paint finish, with registration markings in black on wing and fuselage. The national Swastika insignia is also black, on a white field, superimposed over a horizontal red fin stripe."
