About this Plan

Douglas DC-3. Scale twin airliner for control line. Ohlsson '23' power shown. From July 1948 Mechanix Illustrated.

Quote: "Powered with two O&R 23 engines. While twin engine operation may appear difficult to many model builders, you'll find this model very stable and easy to fly. Furthermore if one engine cuts, and this has happened many times, you can safely land on the remaining engine.

Twin-engine control line models are not too popular in flying circles because most model builders don't especially care to add up the cost of two power plants. We've been in that position many times but in the case of this model, we cut building costs by fitting each engine with a glow-plug thereby eliminating the coils, condensers, spark plug and batteries. Cost for the power plants ready-to-run was less than $22.00.

Our O&R DC-3, aside from being easy on the eyes, was also designed for rough operateion. The landing gear is especially husky and will transmit the shock of landings evenly throughout the entire structure. The wing is detachable which solves transportation and storage problems.

We don't especially recommend this model for beginners but if these instructions are followed carefully, even a novice can turn out a nice job..."

    ScaleType: This (oz2240) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_DC-3
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

I don't even know where to start with this. But... isn't the DC47 a vacuum cleaner?

This is a great looking control line model, but does anyone have a cleaner copy? Thanks.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
