Gregor F.D.B-1 (oz2005)
About this Plan
Gregor FDB-1. Scale Canadian biplane fighter. From Aeromodeller, August 1945.
Quote: "THE last of the biplanes, the Gregor was the first all-Canadian fighter and was a very creditable effort. It was powered with a Pratt and Whitney Wasp Junior, which gave it a speed of almost 300 mph. The Wasp Junior develops about 750 hp at rated altitude, and if we compare this with biplanes of similar horse-power we see that the CCF engineers have produced a very worthy first effort.
The span of 28 ft gave a moderate wing loading, and the landing speed was by no means excessive (flaps were, of course, fitted). The armament was two 0.5 cal machine guns considered sufficient in 1938, when the Gregor first appeared. No detailed performance figures were given out, so the description must necessarily be short. The CCF is now (as far as is known) building Hurricanes.
The Fuselage. Cut formers from 1/16 in sheet balsa, keels from 1/16 sheet substitute. Pin keels to plan, add left formers, leave to set, and check that they are at right angles to keel. Add 1/16 in square stringers; while setting make cowl; 1, 2 and 3 are 1/8 in soft sheet rings (1 and 2 are rings, 3 is a disc with a square hole about its centre), size determined by block on dummy crankcase.
Cement 1, 2 and 3 together; now build up crankcase from two 1/8 in sheet discs and a block, which must be a tight fit in the square hole in 3. Add cowling spacers and 4, cover with 1/16 in sheet. Remove half fuselage from plan and complete other half. Add soft balsa blocks at tail end as shown..."

ScaleType: This (oz2005) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Car_and_Foundry_FDB-1
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
