Hanriot HD-1 (oz1866)
About this Plan
Hanriot HD-1. Scale free flight model biplane fighter for CO2 power.
Quote: "A good choice for a first CO2 free flight scale model by Bill Dennis.
This very simple and straightforward model was designed and built in less than a week. It was intended to be flown outdoors, but careful wood selection may make it suitable for indoors. I used cyano glue throughout, which speeded up assemly a good deal. The metal to wood joints in the undercarriage and cabane were reinforced with cyano and baking powder. I said it was a quick model, so let's get started.
Fuselage. Build the basic sides from 1/16in square and assemble over the plan - this is made easy by the straight top longeron. Note that the side view is slightly over-long to compensate for the taper. Make up F1 and the engine mount, and also a former for moulding the cowling. This is made from papier mache as described recently for the CO2 Sopwith Pup (oz1838) from Aeromodeller, October 1984. Attach the undercarriage and cabanes, followed by the top decking formers which have the same radius as F1. Glue 1/32 in blanks in place for the rear top decking and carefully sand to shape with a long sanding block. When satisfied, glue the five 1/32 in sq basswood stringers in place.
Tape a piece of writing paper down flat and give it two coats of dope. Develop the shapes of the forward top and side decking with tracing paper, transfer to the notepaper and test for fit. Glue in place after covering.
Wing and Tail. To save weight, every other rib is cut down to the pattern shown. The lower wings are flat and built as one piece. Lengths of 22 swg wire are epoxied across the centre section to give strength in this one-piece model.
The simulated ailerons are well worth doing, and very easy. In my view, these are essential for realism in a scale model - more so than the correct number of ribs, etc. With a sharp knife, cut a rebate 3/32 wide by 1/32 deep in each rib..."

ScaleType: This (oz1866) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanriot_HD.1
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.
Corrections? Use the correction form to tell us the new/better ScaleType link we should be using. Thanks.

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
