About this Plan

Voodoo. Flying wing RC aerobatic soarer.

Quote: "Aerobatic flying-wing soarer, for breeze-to-gale! Voodoo, by Arthur Searl.

THE FLYING WING is perhaps the most common of the so-called 'unorthodox' layouts, yet the few that one does see flying never seem to live up to the promise that theoretical consideration of the layout would suggest. Therefore, I am going to describe here how, in slope soaring, the 'wing' comes into its own, with all the benefits one would expect, plus some surprise bonuses, all there for the building. Interested? Then I humbly submit the Voodoo design.

Most modellers toy with the idea of building a 'wing' at some time or other during their modelling career and, over the past 30 years, I passed through all branches - free-flight, control-line and radio. I found some success with R/C powered wings, but it was limited success only, never the hope-for results, until I tried R/C soaring - then it happened. It all seemed to pay off.

The thing all started on the heather and bracken covered slopes of Clwyd, one windless day, in wondering if any model could be designed to suit all types of conditions, without the need for ballasting, or for building about six wings of differing area. The answer could, perhaps, be found by turning yet again to the flying-wing layout, I mused. And (did I say it already?) I feel it has been, with Voodoo. At the risk of being accused of trying to brainwash you soaring types, I'll run through the benefits which seem to be derived.

Voodoo has an amazing ability to fly in a wider range of wind velocities than any other model I have come across - from zero-sink to gale force. It can handle very turbulent conditions, so that you hardly even notice they are there..."

Hi Mary &Steve, After the plan appeared there was a correction to the C of G. The correct C of G is 2 1/2" to the rear of that shown on the plan. The copy of the plan you are showing needs the C of G corrected. Hope this helps. Regards,

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
