About this Plan

Nardi FN.333. Free flight scale model for rubber power.

As requested by Robert Schlickewitz.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "Thanks Robert for the request and the brief history of the aircraft [see build notes]. After doing some research I was intrigued with this aircraft, also I like float planes and flying boats.

So here’s the build info on this plan. A really interesting aircraft!

CONSTRUCTION:

WING: The wing is constructed in the Dave Rees’ “Sliced Rib” method. There is a great tutorial on Mike Stuart’s site for this type of build: https://www.ffscale.co.uk/rees.htm Use the dimensions as specified on the plans for the two spars, ribs, L.E. and T.E.

FUSELAGE: The fuselage is built using a “Ladder Jig”. There are many ways to make a Ladder Jig from simple ½” balsa rails with 1/16” steps wide enough to span the height of the fuselage to commercial built jigs. Maxfliart has a great tutorial on this method using foam board for the jig. Tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yUYY1dqfH8

EMPENNAGE:

HORIZONTAL STAB: The HZ stab is built using 3/32”sq and sheet balsa. This stab fits between the two booms extending from the main wing.

BOOMS: The booms are made of laminations of central layer of 1/32” ply and outer laminations of 1/8” balsa or larger is you have that available. Sand to shape. The booms are mounted to the wing using balsa strips from the rear spar to the T.E. sandwiching the booms. I’ll leave you to your imaginations for this one.

VERTICAL STABS: Make two of the vertical stab using the “Build in the Air” method I like to use to make a fuller and lighter stab than the sheet balsa stabs. Make the outline of the stabs flat on the building board. When dry lift from the building board and add the vertical 1/16” triangular spars to the 3/32” stab cap. When this is dry and straight with the outline begin adding the 1/32”x1/8” rib strips gluing to the L.E. spar and T.E. starting at the top of the stab and working to the base alternating from side to side to keep even tension on the stab.

FLOATS: The floats on this aircraft are retractable and so I show them in the retracted position at the tips of the wings. I was planning to use foam to carve these floats and attach them to the wing tips. I show locations in the wings if you choose to extend the floats.

MAIN FLOAT: This is built integrally with the fuselage but there is a rudder that is retracted when in flight. Both positions are shown on the plan.

The 3 view drawing used for making the plan can be found here. I modified the fuselage former to be flat under the wing so the wing can be set in place.

I hope you can use this plan to make a respectable model of the Nardi FN.333 Riviera.
Regards,
Tom Akery/Sky9pilot"

ScaleType: This (oz17015) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIAI-Marchetti_FN.333_Riviera
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
