About this Plan

Buzz-Fly. Control line sport trainer model. Wingspan 534 mm.

Quote: "A rugged, all-sheet control-line trainer for 1 cc engines. Buzz-Fly, by, designed by Gilbert Lawrence .

Building a 'Buzz-Fly' couldn't be easier! Make a tracing from the plan onto stiff card and cut out the patterns. Shuffle the patterns to economise on balsa but use the outside edge of the hard 1/4 in balsa sheet to make the fuselage centre line straight and square.

Cut the wing from soft 1/4 in sheet balsa 3 in (75mm) wide sheet 21 in (534) long. The remaining off-cut is then cut diagonally to give the trailing edge. PVA glue the 1/4 in spruce leading edge to the 3 in wide sheet, add the two trailing edge pieces and squeeze it all tight. When dry, sand to the aerofoil shape.

Cut the slots in the fuselage for the wing and tail to ensure a snug fit. Bolt the lcc engine you are using to the 1/4 in spruce bearers, line it up accurately and cut the fuselage and PVA glue. Now, also using PVA glue, fix wing and tail to the fuselage, cramp up tight and check that all is square.Add the ply side cheeks and the ply discs for the bellcrank. Three coats of sanding sealer and some car spray aerosol will give a quick finish.

Sew on the elevator complete with horn; make a 16g wise pushrod from the bellcrank to the horn; fit engine and tank and you are ready to fly! 10 mettes of strong non-stretch thread can be tied directly to the bellcrank and all you need now is a calm evening and someone to give you a smooth hand launch. Have fun!"

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
