Drifter 3D. Radio control sport aerobatic model. Wingspan 1300 mm, wing area 42 dm2, for .46 engine.

Quote: "Hi friends, The story begins in 2008 following a challenge raised by my friends. Asked why I didn't buy a 3D model (they were starting to be fashionable) I behaved like a smart ass and said that I didn't like the commercial models because they were too heavy, too fragile or poorly designed. The obvious reply I received was "Make a better one if you're so smart!". The gauntlet had been thrown down, and my vanity (once again) got me to work. The bet was to build a model with the predetermined dimensions, under 2kg for a .46 engine without using composite materials.

I made the design at that time in 2D using CorelDraw. For the airfoil I started from Sukhoi 31 airfoil and adapted for small Reynolds. Two months later, the model was in the air. The bet had been won by only 10g difference :) The only extravagance I was allowed was to use a carbon landing gear, a gift from a friend who had just buried his own model.

Since the model turned out to be a good flyer, I decided to redraw it in 3D, making a few small corrections and improvements. The new drawings are made for a more common O.S. Max engine. The attached archives contain the laser cutting files and the assembly drawings at 1:1 scale. For enthusiasts, I have also included 3D objects for the cockpit and cowl so they can be made from glass fiber.

I'm sending this project only for Outerzone site and its supporters since it is not intended for any commercial activities!
