About this Plan

Tipsy Junior. Free flight profile scale model for rubber power. Wingspan 16 in.

Quote: "Profile Tipsy Junior, by AA Lidberg.

Nocal scale airplanes are quick-building, easy to trim and fly, and look good too. The Tipsy Junior was considered one of the finest-performing small aircraft ever built; the model flies good too.

There is a place in our hobby for the kind of a model project that can be completed in just a few hours. I'm not talking about a super-prefab, ready-to-fly kit, but rather a simple model that can be built from a few scraps of balsa. Now, if this basically low cost model turns out to look pretty good and fly even better, the return on your investment of building time is really great. This wordy introduction leads us to a little known class of model, called Nocal scale.

Nocals need only to be recognizable models, rubber powered and limited to a 16-inch span. Building a scale model as a profile really saves time, material and weight, helping to produce a good flying, very simple model. The Tipsy is the latest in a series of Nocals that my son Chris and I have been developing. We've concentrated on models that could be built without wheels (ie retracted) for lightness, but when we found the Tipsy 3-view, we quickly made an exception. Lightweight balsa wheels don't seem to adversely affect its flying ability and they allow ROGs for fun flying. In yellow tissue with black markings and blue trim, OO-ULA is a colorful model, too... ScaleType: This (oz16920) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avions_Fairey_Junior

    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Hmmm. It fails for me, here. I'm using free Acrobat Reader on a Win 10 PC. I get the error: "Insufficient data for an image" when I try to view page 2.

Meanwhile, have uploaded an alternate scan of page 2 for now, thanks to Alexander.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
