Here’s one of those early jets. It’s a challenge to see if I could design a model to be made of stick and tissue. Its construction is different from most models. Fuselage is wide and double humped for the two jet engines. This will be a challenge to build. It’s not for beginners. But I like a challenge!
CONSTRUCTION:
FUSELAGE: The fuselage is to be built on a ladder jig. But this will look different because of the flat fuselage of the Sea Vixen. Once the stringers are in place, not side to side but top to bottom. This can be built as either a pusher or tractor rubber powered model with clear props from a 2 liter soda bottle. Once the fuselage is done move on to the wings.
WING PANELS: The wing panels are built using the sliced rib construction technique from Dave Rees’. There is a great tutorial from Mike Stuart’s site: https://www.ffscale.co.uk/rees.htm
Once the panels are completed you’ll need to make sure you have a nice flat surface on the fuselage for joining the wings. You’ll need to allow for the angle of the rood ribs for the dihedral as noted on the plan.
EMPENNAGE: The horizontal stab has been enlarged a bit for stability so this moves the booms out approximately ½” each side of the fuselage. The booms are constructed by laminating the central 1/16” sheet balsa and two sides of foam. I use the sheet insulation foam from the home repair stores. You can cut off any size strip you need from the 1 inch 4’x8’ sheet. One sheet will last you a long long time. The vertical surfaces are part of the booms so this could be built up or continuous sheet balsa. But the grain of the fin/rudder should run along the L.E. angle.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
