Quote: "Giotto Mazzolini presents his radio controlled model. 3rd place at L Rossi.

I gladly accepted the invitation to write about my radio-controlled model, because it has always seemed strange to me that there are so many enthusiasts in the various branches of modeling, yet so few, almost countable on one hand, who are dedicated to radio control.

I am far from a pioneer in this field, and if I want to share my experiences, it is precisely because I believe them to be useful for anyone who wants to dedicate themselves to it, and is held back by financial or technical-constructive considerations.

One day last year, Professor Puddu invited me on a trip to Lake Castelgandolfo, and there I had my first contact with radio control applied to a model motorboat.

When the formula for rubber-band models was changed to the current one (which in my opinion is disgusting), I decided that I would turn to something different. more interesting, and, despite having no idea where I'd find the money to buy the radio parts, I sketched out what seemed like a radio-controlled model project, and slowly, piece by piece, I built it in about three months.

I had half a mind to approach Professor Puddu to place his equipment on it, but I was careful not to mention it to him until I was certain the model was suitable for the job.

A couple of days after the model was finished, and it "towered" with its bulk, certainly not comparable to that of the Wakefields, in my house, where I cuddled and touched up and examined it constantly, awaiting its christening, I happened upon the Aero Club, and there Lustrati introduced me to Cassinis, who revealed himself to me as a true radio-control enthusiast (when he's not a doctor), who, however, until that moment, had never It had achieved good results, thanks to the models, not the radio. The fact is, we agreed to go to Torraccia the next day to see if the model I had built would work.

It was me, Lustrati, Cassinis, and Gialanella. After the first glide test, we found that, logically, without the radio and its batteries, the model was pitched up. A stone and Gialanella's scarf (we thought the whole thing weighed about 350 grams, but it was actually 640 grams) fixed everything, and there was no need to change the angle of attack at all..."

Have changed the name of this one to "I-GIMA 2" as that is the correct full name as published back in 1954, thanks to Pit.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
