I love the multi tailed aircraft. Of course the Connie with he triple tail is the best! But this Flamant looks good with the twin tailed set up. I wanted an unusual twin and these early French aircraft have that great look and design.
CONSTRUCTION:
WING: As you’ve probably realized, I like to build the wing first. This wing is built using the Rees’ style sliced rib construction. Makes a strong and light wing. L.E. is 3/32”x1/8” with T.E. 1/16”x1/2” . Spars are made of 1/16” sheet ½” at root tapering to 3/32 at tip for the main spar. The rear spar is 1/16”x¼” at the root tapering to 3/32”. The trusses are 1/32”x1/8” glued to the spars on each end.
Nacelles are box style under the wing with the front formers held in place with dorsal, latteral and ventral spines. The cowlings are laminated balsa as marked. I was planning on cheating a blt on the rear of the nacelles by not bringing to a point but about 1/8” for the motor anchors.
FUSELAGE: This fuselage is to be built on a ladder jig. The formers can be made from 1/16” sheet balsa or laminated using 1/32”x1/16” strips around the patterns. Alternating stringers from side to side to balance the tension in the stringers. Be sure to leave yourself enough room to remove the rungs from the jig once enough stringers have been added to the formers.
EMPENNAGE: Make this from 3/32” sq and sheet balsa. T.E. 3/32”x1/4” sanding T.E. to 1/16”. The vertical fin/rudders are 1/16” sheet balsa or built up using 3/32” sq and sheet balsa.
There are lots of color schemes for this aircraft to make it stand out when you take it to the flying field.
Enjoy,
Tom Akery/Sky9pilot"

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
