About this Plan

Avia BH-7b Racer. Free flight scale model for rubber power. Wingspan 13 in.

Quote: "Attractive lines and easy flight trimming characterize this 1923 Czech racing plane. Avia BH-7B Racer, by Stan Fink.

Browsing through Bill Hannan's Stick and Tissue International, Vol 2, I was grabbed by the three-views for the beautiful little 1923 Avia BH-7b racer. This Czech airplane was modified from a parasol-winged fighter. It reached 185 mph during testing, but was damaged before it had a chance to compete.

The Avia is not just another high-wing monoplane. The large spinner, engine manifold, landing gear radiators and double turtledeck make it an unusual modeling subject. The nose and tail moments looked inviting, so I decided to "Peanutize" this little bird. My efforts were rewarded with an attractive model which flew well right off the board.

Construction of the model is conventional, but the fuselage has some tricky spots. It is a box with added formers, so start by building two identical fuselage sides. When they are dry, separate them and add the cross-pieces to complete the box.

Now add top and bottom formers A through G, except for C; this will be added after the wing is in place. Be sure to slant the top of former A as indicated on the plan. Do not attach side formers A or B at this time; they will be added after the fuselage is covered.

Add the top and bottom 1/64 sheet decking. Cut the sheet oversize in sections with the grain running lengthwise, attach it with CA glue and trim with a razor blade, Do not put the top decking on between formers A and D until the wing is covered and installed. Now set the fuselage aside..."

    ScaleType: This (oz16663) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avia_BH-7
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
