About this Plan

Junior Whirlwind. Control line trainer model. Wingspan 19 in.

Quote: "Monogram's JUNIOR WHIRLWIND is the ultimate in small control line models. Completeness of finished parts speeds assembly and allows more flying time. Being carved from solid balsa it is able to take a beating.

You'll be the center of attraction when you fly Junior. Take-off is short and sweet. In the air it handles like a dream, responding to your touch with ease and grace. Power off, Junior glides smooth and steady to a beautiful landing.

Clean lines give the ship performance and speed. Stripped of landing gear and fitted with a belly skid and take-off dolly, the Junior Whirlwind is a real contender for top speed records."

"Power off, Junior glides smooth and steady to a beautiful landing." Yeah, right!

This is definitely not a trainer. This is a state-of-the art speed model from the 1940s. The engine shown on the plan is an Arden .19 and it would definitely be very quick with that, or the Bantam .19 also shown. And quite tricky to fly for someone not experienced with speed models.

Hi Steve, I found this photo [pic 003]. Not sure if this is a Jnr Whirlwind, or the larger Whirlwind. regards,

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
