Quote: "SOPWITH BABY. COVER PLANS WITH WAX PAPER.

FUSELAGE: Fuselage is basically a square box. Build two sides. When dry turn upside down and pin on top view of plans. Glue in cross pieces at #2 and #3. Pinch tail section together and glue making sure both sides have same curvature. Glue in cross pieces in nose and work back toward tail. Glue on formers. Use a compass to mark the nose block pieces and trace openings in the bottom sections. Glue together from B to F. Nose comes apart between F and G. Glue A on after you have installed rotary motor. Install stringers from #3 to #6. There is no cheek cowl behind motor.

WINGS: Wings are standard construction. Note in the front view the small stubs on the lower wing. The dihedral starts with the end of stub wing. The plan shows left wing. Upper and lower wings are the same. To get drawings of right wing put carbon paper (carbon side up) under plans. With a sharp pencil draw over all lines of left wing, and a reverse plan will be on back side of paper.

RUDDER AND ELEVATOR: All inside construction 3/32 square. Curved sections are 1/32 x 1/16 laminate. To laminate trace inside line on a pieces of 1/16 cardboard. Cut out cardboard. Line the curve with plastic tape. Slice 1/32-wood 1/16 wide and soak slices in water. Pin one slice of wood to the cardboard curve. The second slice is coated with white glue on one side. Remove one pin at a time and glue second slice to first slice and use pins to hold in place all way around curve. When dry glue to interior construction.

FLOATS: From side view cut 4 main float sides and two rear float sides from 1/32 sheet. Glue formers to one float side making sure formers are vertical. Glue other side to formers. Cover tops and bottoms with cross sheet 1/32 sheet. Don't forget to add water rudder to rear float.

There is material for motor. Glue 2 pieces of 3/16 x 3/8 together. Sand round and wrap with thread. Use common pins for push rods.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
