This plan was inspired by the video of Reegan’s Magnificant B-58 Hustler video on YouTube. I originally found it on RCgroups site. Here’s a link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubQrbTPGakA
I figured if he got the B-58 flying out of sheet foam board I might be able to get a B-58 rubber powered twin with a built up wing and body. So here’s the results of the inspiration.

CONSTRUCTION:

WING: This wing is built up in the traditional manner with sheet ribs and spars over and under the ribs. You’ll note multiple spars to build up the delta wing platform. The plan shows a possible four rubber motors but was planning on just a twin rubber power with the inboard nacelles for the power. The elevators are built separately and hinged to the wing to give some reflex to the delta wing.

FUSELAGE: I planned on using a ladder jig to build the fuselage. Then add 1/32”x1/16” stringers at 1/8” intervals alternating one side to the other of the fuselage to minimize tension in the fuselage.

EMPENNAGE: I planned to build the vertical stab with the build in the air technique once the outline of the stab is built flat on the board, the vertical spar is added and the 1/32”x1/8” ribs are added over the spar and attached to the L.E. and T.E.

I have so many planes to build but this on must be moved up on the “To Do List”!

    ScaleType: This (oz16574) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair_B-58_Hustler
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
