About this Plan

Agro II. Free flight sport model for rubber power. Wingspan 20 in.

Quote: "Agro was inspired by a combination of features that are common to most American military ground attack aircraft, very functional yet at the same time having crisp and pleasing outlines. A small rubber powered model that was slightly different with an aggressive look about it was required and this was the outcome, hence the name.

The original model was only 17 inches wing span with a four-bladed propeller to give it that realistic turboprop look but this proved to be very vulnerable even though the model flew well. The extra blade area of the propeller tended to lower the propeller revs which gave the model a very sedate flying pattern without much of a climb.

Because it looked so good in the air I decided to build a slightly larger version to suit a 7 inch commercial plastic propeller and 'Agro II' was the outcome.

It uses the same type of construction as its predecessor but its performance is improved. Don't be put off by the 1/32 sheet fuselage as it is quite strong yet very light - but do choose a good straight grained medium weight sheet.

With a semi-scale model of this type, decoration is very important and a few markings on the fuselage and fins such as the force to which it belongs, squadron markings and numbers, fin flashers and ejector seat triangles all add up to making a very attractive model without adding much extra weight.

Construction is very straight forward with only the wing building and assembly being slightly different, so lets get started.

Construction: After having marked and cut out all the individual parts, using whichever method is preferred, put the wing and tailplane components to one side and start the fuselage assembly. Don't forget to cut out the wing seat slots in the fuselage sides.

Cement the rear motor peg 1/16 doublers into position on the fuselage sides and the 1/32 sheet nose doublers which go between formers F1A and F2 making sure they are on the inner sides of the fuselage (left and right).

Cement the 1/16 strips to formers F2 and F3. Cement formers F1A, F2 and F3 onto one fuselage side where shown, making sure they are square. When the formers are dry, cement the other fuselage side into position on the formers and once again check that everything is square.

Bring the tail end together and cement. Hold the tail end together with a pin or adhesive tape and check by viewing from the rear that both fuselage sides have the same amount of curve..."

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
