About this Plan

Candy 30 DLG. Hand launch glider model. Wingspan 30 in, wing area 120 sq in. Uses some foam construction.

Quote: "Here is my CANDy 30 design (stands for Cheap And Nasty Dlg). The idea was to build something really simple and cheap for a bit of fun flying. I reckon the whole lot cost about £23.

It's built from 6mm depron covered in coloured parcel tape with a pound shop glassfibre fishing pole section boom. The wing is a flat depron sheet with a vertical carbon strip spar (0.5x5mm), the trailing edge is lightly sanded to thin it a bit and the leading edge is radiused. The tail surfaces are balsa.

Wing span is 30 inch, and all up weight ended up at 78 grams, including 10 grams of noseweight. The servos are 2.5g Emax ES9051 digital, which work very nicely with Kevlar thread and pull spring control surfaces.

The battery is an 8 gram Turnigy Nanotech 1S 300mAh and the receiver is a 3g Orange R410X.

The model took an afternoon to design and about two days to build. It flies quite nicely, not in the same league as an Elf obviously, but plenty of fun for the minimal investment. You might get half the performance but it comes at 1/6th the price!

The thin, flat wing section makes for good penetration, in fact it can cover a surprising amount of sky, but the glide slope suffers in 'thermal mode'. Being light, I think it will manage with decent lift about, and being fast it should be fun on a slope in light winds..."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
