Race Cat (oz16534)
About this Plan
Race Cat. Radio control pylon racer model, for electric power with Speed 400 motor. Wingspan 800 mm.
Quote (google-translated): "Electric Model Aircraft of the 'Schnuppi Class'. Race Cat, by Werner Dettweiler.
Do you know Schnuppi? No, it's not a new perfume, but it comes from the land where you can enjoy the famous cheese with holes; they also have good chocolate there, and, oh yes, the Militky Cup. About five years ago, the Swiss model aircraft enthusiast Hans-Jakob Sommerauer built a particularly simple, small, and fast electric model aircraft powered by seven NiCd cells; he christened it 'Schnuppi.' But it didn't stop there, because behind the endearing name Schnuppi lies the idea of having a huge amount of fun with minimal effort. Suddenly, people who previously only associated the term with heavy flight batteries became interested in electric flight.
There were certainly electric aircraft enthusiasts in other countries at the same time who were building and flying similar models without ever having heard the name Schnuppi. But when the first Schnuppi pylon race took place in Pfäffikon during the Militky Cup in 1981, a new competition class was created, and only afterward were such races flown elsewhere.
Schnuppi races are held regularly once a year in Pfäffikon (Switzerland), Freistadt (Austria), Munich, and at the electric flight winter meet in Bad Nauheim. The dates are always announced in FMT magazine in good time. The respective competition announcements provide information about the race procedure.
There are no construction restrictions for the models. However, to ensure that the Schnuppis remain Schnuppis, a maximum of seven 1.2 Ah cells may be used.
This much freedom in construction makes the hearts of Schnuppi flyers beat faster, because all possibilities for constructing a really hot electric racer are open. The wingspan is reduced, the modified laminar airfoil removes air resistance, and the competition is shocked when the 'hot rod' is unleashed. - But would you have the nerve to fly such a highly tuned model?
If not, the 'Race Cat' is recommended. It flies as smoothly as a taxi, only a bit faster and much quieter, because in the long run, only electric power will do!
Construction instructions: The shape and dimensions of the components can be taken from the building plan. Please note the respective cuts, and the hardness specifications for the balsa wood in the parts list should also be observed.
The fuselage with tail assembly: Glue the fuselage bottom 1 together with the corner strips 2, then you can glue in the formers 3 to 6 and align them at right angles. Fit the cross spar 4 and glue it in place. The Bowden cable tube 9 is inserted laterally into the vertical stabilizer 8 and glued in place. The thinner inner tube of a standard Bowden cable is used as the outer tube. After the vertical fin is glued on along with the two-part bulkhead 7, you can glue on the fuselage side panels 10. Cut the parts 11 slightly oversized and glue them on along with the corner strips 14. Once everything is thoroughly dry..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
