About this Plan

Cessna 402 Turbo Conversion. Free flight scale model for rubber power.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "CESSNA 402 TWIN CONVERTED TO SINGLE TURBO
27” SPAN
DRAWN 13 OCT 2024

To date 4 Cessna 402 units were converted to turbo and two have crashed. One was due to a locking rudder that wasn’t disabled at the time of the conversion. I didn’t find out the cause of the other crash. This is a good looking aircraft and fits my unusual criteria for drawing a plan.

CONSTRUCTION:

WING: This wing is built using the Dave Rees sliced rib construction. The wing tip tanks can be made several ways, hollowed out balsa block, foam block or a vacuum/plunge molded foam plate molded over wooden pattern. I was planning on using the last option.

FUSELAGE: Build the fuselage using the box technique with formers on top and bottom of the box

EMPENNAGE: Horizontal stab is 3/32” sq and sheet balsa built flat on the board. The vertical stab is also built flat on the board for the outline. Once dry add the vertical spar and 1/32”x1/8” ribs over the spar to the L.E. and T.E."

ScaleType: This (oz16516) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cessna_402
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Tom, is there documentation for this airplane. I'd love to build it, but I couldn't find a 3-view drawing.

Found some good pictures on the web searching DMI Falcon 402, which is the actual name. It's a turbine conversion, not a "Turbo."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
