Loadstar 40 (oz16515)
About this Plan
Loadstar 40. Radio control sport model. Wingspan 72-3/4 in, wing area 760 sq in. For .25 to .50 engines.
Quote: "The Bridi Loadstar 40 has a flat bottom airfoil. Easy construction of the wing and fuselage. Capable of multi-purpose use as a trainer or sport flyer. Great airplane for both general flying and beginners. The Loadstar 40 slows down for gentle landings. Dural landing gear, motor mount and hardware included."

Quote: "Steve & Mary- Here’s the plan for Joe Bridi’s Loadstar 40, scanned by William Smith and edited by DPlumpe.
Trainer designs are typically high-wing cabin types for stability but vary in size and construction. All else being equal, the larger and lighter the plane the better and easier it’ll be to fly – important for a beginner. A heavily-designed model will often be stronger and better able to withstand an 'oops' but the faster it’ll have to fly, thus be more difficult to control. The lighter the wing loading, the slower it’ll fly and easier it'll be to control. I tend to feel a heavier design is made to withstand a crash, while a lighter design is made to fly.
At 73 inch span the Loadstar 40 is a good-size plane, certainly larger than the presently popular foamy trainers. Its construction is a compromise between an all stick design like Sig's Seniorita and the more common all sheet balsa models. Though I’d prefer to see a built-up tail vs. sheet balsa, the sheet balsa version is certainly easier to build – also important for a beginner."
Update 18/1/2026: Added kit instructions (16 pages, complete inc parts list), thanks to DPlumpe.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
