About this Plan

Komar. Simple rubbber sport model. Wingspan 320 mm. Uses foam construction.

Quote (google-translated): "The Mosquito... If we sowed the seeds before the recipe? Eugène Cerny.

A question often heard by the club leader, a question from a few newcomers, a question that almost always boils down to this - I want a simple plane that flies well and isn't expensive. The Dream.

Let's analyze, let's search our archives - but especially not the relics from the era when airfields were accessible to everyone and everything, relics with substantial flights - I believe those are definitively erased, even from our imaginations. And if a few exceptions exist, they will be limited flights. And for how long?

After a few experiments, sticks and paper proved a fiasco. Often the older brother who knows everything... wasn't entirely blameless. Otherwise, the parents.

As a solution, I chose 3mm thick Depron polystyrene, a 3x3 strip of wood, and a plan found in the 'OBCANIK' bulletins, issue number 48. This met the requirements: a 320mm wingspan for the 'KOMAR,' meaning mosquito in Czech.

The model is sound and easy to build, both at the club level and for private projects. Templates are made of smooth cardboard for the wing and stabilizer; the fuselage and fin are one piece.

THE FUSELAGE. Place the template on the 3mm Depron sheet, trace around it with a felt-tip pen, and cut it out with a razor blade. Remove the template, then sand the fin to 1.5mm thick; it tapers towards the top. Do not round the leading edge; this can be used to adjust the turning radius. Glue the fuselage to the 3x3 strip using aliphatic white glue: use pieces of tape to secure the spar to the fuselage, creating taut tape loops. Let it dry.

THE WING. Trace it using a template. Tape the two wing halves to the upper surface. We're going to bend the wing to achieve the correct profile. Get a ruler and a Bic pen that no longer works. To make the job easier, glue pieces of fine sandpaper under the ruler with contact cement: the ruler won't slip. Place the ruler in the middle and use the Bic pen to make grooves, not too deep to start..."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
