Quote: "LOCKHEED C-130 HERCULES
30” SPAN
DRAWN 18 OCT 2015

This is one of my first big wing span models. The nacelles are too small for four rubber motors but with the radar dome on the nose, it would make a nice spinner for a big clear prop on the nose of this big bird. The prop would disappear in clear and the four small scale prop would windmill in the slipstream. There are some great color schemes for the Herckie Bird and a highly visible one is for the USCG. When I lived in Sacramento, CA near McCellan AFB there was a squadron of Coast Guard Herculies stationed there. Nice red and white colors.

CONSTRUCTION:

WING: As usual for me would be the Rees’ sliced rib construction. I noted the 3/32l” sq L.E. but would enlarge the T.E. to 1/16”x1/4”. This was one of my earliest plans and I would make a few changes in building it myself. If I’m like most modelers it’s hard to leave a plan alone and not modify it in some way, shape or form. So have at it modelers.

FUSELAGE: This is another ladder jig construction. You can see the demarcation line on the side view of the fuselage and the alignment lines on the formers for location of the former on the ladder I was thinking of making the formers from 3 lams of 1/32”x1/16” . Remember to wax the templates good so the laminations will release easily.

I have a lot of C-130 pictures in my collection of slides taken around the Northern California AFB’s

Enjoy,
Tom Akery/Sky9pilot"

Absolutely great! Would it be possible to do a plan for the Canadair CL-215 and/or CL-415 of similar wingspan as the C-130H? That's asking a lot I know. Thank you,
Dave Lentz

I tried Tom... and for a while, it seemed to have worked (wink, wink). I guess you are too good at what you do, and everyone notices.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
