Amateur 2 (oz16443)
About this Plan
Amateur 2. Radio control sport trainer model. Wingspan 1200 mm.
Discontinued kit from Graupner.
Planfile includes full build instructions, in German.
Quote (google-translated): "The assembly instructions are largely arranged according to the parts list numbering. The construction of the model aircraft is explained chronologically. The notes summarized at the end of the instructions provide additional explanations.
All pre-cut wooden parts are carefully separated from the sheets using a sharp balsa knife and then deburred. All parts should be fitted or adjusted; some have extra dimensions for this purpose.
Lay out the sub-assembly parts for the fuselage, wings, tail assembly, etc according to their item numbers. Use a flat, straight board for assembly, eg part number 511. Many parts are assembled on the plan; then pin the plan to the board and cover it with adhesive-resistant, transparent paper or foil.
Deviations from the listed assembly sequence are at your own discretion. Retrofitting the remote control or making modifications may be difficult or impossible.
Use the construction plan, exploded view, perspective drawings, parts list, selected motor, servos, receiver, and battery as constant aids during construction. Furthermore, you must decide now which model version (with two or three-wheel landing gear) you will build. If you choose the three-wheel landing gear version, you will also need a nose gear conversion kit, part number 292..."

Quote (google-translated): "Guy Revel's airplane test. From the Professional Amateur II Model.
The Amateur was an old classic from Graupner that had stood the test of time. After a serious facelift, it reappears as the Amateur II in a simpler, more elegant, and incredibly efficient version. A real bargain for anyone looking for a good beginner's plane with a reduced investment, as only a small-displacement engine can provide. Amazing!
It's worth knowing that it's all the more important to learn to fly a smaller plane due to insufficient inertia. Such a model reacts more abruptly than a larger one, requiring sharper reflexes than a beginner might possess.
On the other hand, its sturdiness is increased, and a crash rarely has catastrophic consequences, unlike what can happen with a plane weighing over 2 kg.
As a result, there are few such models available commercially, but they are generally excellent. The latest offering from Graupner can only raise the average.
The Amateur is a small, two-way, high-wing airplane designed for a 1.5 to 2 cc engine. Relatively small (1.20 m wingspan) and lightweight, it features a conventionally shaped wing with a plano-convex airfoil. Plank tail surfaces and a seemingly massive fuselage, certainly very robust and lighter than one might think.
Typically Graupner: There's no mistaking it; at first glance, you realize the Amateur II is a pure Graupner product. Beneath its very neat presentation lies a respectable amount of wood - mostly balsa - as well as some molded ABS parts, a very clear plan, and a "new style" instruction manual, meaning it's broken down into simple steps, each with a simplified bird's-eye view.
For accessories, there are two bags of extras to be purchased separately: one contains the wheels, which are essential, as well as the transmission accessories; the second contains the parts - legs, wheels, etc - necessary for converting to tricycle landing gear. The fuel tank and some miscellaneous accessories are not included. It's a shame that, for a beginner's plane, you have to hunt for them. accessories that a beginner doesn't usually have.
Just starting out? No problem! Given its small size, the Amateur II is an aircraft designed to be hand-launched much more often than launched from the ground. Therefore, purchasing the tricycle landing gear accessory is absolutely unnecessary, except perhaps for aesthetic reasons. However, the bicycle landing gear included in the standard kit simplifies construction and saves weight..."

Awesome! Thanks a lot for that one.I bought this plane built -but unused- from a school-mate in the mid 90s and it is still in use. I´ve been flying this wing more or less since 2004 with a different fuselage, electric motor and it is a nice trainer.

Hello Mary, hello Steve, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I am sending you my pictures of my Amateur II. It was originally powered by a 2.5 cc OS 2-stroke engine. After restoration, the Amateur II now flies electrically.
Best regards,

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
