About this Plan

FJS-65E (Frog Junior Sailplane 65 Electric). Radio control powered glider model. For electric with 2208-26 brushless motor. Wingspan 65 in, wing area 466 sq in.

Note the Frog Junior Sailplane (oz3856) kit was first produced in 1955. This here is a later, enlarged version adapted for RC and electric power.

Quote: "One of the joys of the modern era is to browse the many plans in Outerzone. European models from companies such as Frog were unknown to many of us here in the USA. I spotted a nice looking version of the 1955 20 inch Frog Junior Sailplane and was impressed with the overall look of the model.

I was thinking about designing a simple electric power trainer glider for my grandsons and decided to enlarge the Frog Junior to 65”.

The design goals were as follows:

• Frog Junior Sailplane outlines
• 65” one piece bolt on wing
• Flat center section
• Spars built as first step in assembly to assure dihedral
• Flat bottom airfoil
• Flat stab airfoil
• Laminated elevator, fin and rudder with embedded ca hinges
• Fuselage constructed from 3/32” sheet balsa with 1/8” balsa reinforcement at the edges.
• Fly with a Spectrum Safe receiver with telemetry
• Designed for the Cobra C-2208/26 brushless motor with a Cobra 22A esc and a Graupner 7-1/2-4 folding prop.

Construction:

Wing: The wing is very conventional. Since it is a bolt on wing leave the sheeting off the center section until the carbon fiber wing hold down tube is epoxied in place while the wing is temporarily rubber banded to the fuselage. The plan shows optional spoilers which have not been tested.

Stab, Fin and Rudder: The stab is stick built. The rear 3/32” x ¼” balsa sticks and elevator are built in two layers over the plan with embedded Mylar or CA hinges. This allows for easy sanding and eliminates the hassle of installing hinges..."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
