About this Plan
Sticlein. Radio control powered glider model. Twin-boom layout with pusher prop. Wingspan 167 cm. For electric power with geared Speed 400 motor.
Quote (google-translated): "Electric twin-boom pusher aircraft. Sticlein, by Maura Magnani.
The design for this model stems from a specific idea: to create an extremely economical electric aircraft, both in terms of cost and technical performance. Flying with low energy makes the game challenging, as the model must be both efficient and extremely light.
I've been wondering for some time how much energy is needed to keep a model of a certain weight in the air and how much to allow it to climb a certain number of meters per second. It is clear from these considerations that the most suitable construction type for the purpose was the classic one, a model made of balsa wood and elbow grease.
The Sticklein is the second model built after the considerations mentioned above. The first was built on the design of the Olympic Calypso, powered by a Speed ??400 with a 2.33:1 reduction gear, a 10 x 6 propeller, and six 900 mm cells.
With this engine, I obtained the best performance in terms of flight duration, which in calm air translated into a total time of about 25 minutes with about 10 minutes of engine power. The climb rate was just over 1 m/s. As for the Sticklein, the design arose from the need to have the propeller propulsive for maximum thrust, preferably positioned as close as possible to the longitudinal axis.
All this is to avoid wasting energy in the generation of moments that do not coincide with the flight line, as for example in the case of the fin engine..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
