Lil Cloud Sniffer (oz16323)
About this Plan
Lil Cloud Sniffer. Free flight sport model for rubber power. Wingspan 21 in.
Quote: "Li'l Cloud Sniffer, by Ed Lidgard. This little model was built as a result of several inspirations and problems. When completed, I was smugly pleased with myself, because not only had the model flown well, but, more important, I had learned a few things (Yeah - I've got a lot to learn).
It all started one day when by chance I had in one hand a piece of 3 inch wide, 1/16 sheet balsa, and in the other, a dope-laden brush. So, in the process of doodling about, the brush found itself being drawn over the wood, spreading dope on the underside of the wing. While pondering over a problem of the moment, I sat gazing out the window, absent-mindedly curving the piece of wood into an airfoil shape.
Well, I doodled long enoughfor the dope to dry thoroughly. The piece of wood maintained its shape. Hmm, thinks myself, 'tis an easy way to make a wing. So I do it over again. This time I am not quite so lazy, I apply sandpaper in the right places to taper the sheet-wood to an airfoil shape - with tips. The result was a nice wing. But being a skeptic-- remembering that all is not dry that appears to be dry - leave the wing to set for a while.
The 'while' turned into weeks until another mind-wandering act got under way. Having just been released from Uncle Sam's army, I was flying an ancient model (it really wasn't old; it had been built four years after Jim Cahill's latest), and had had the misfortune of losing it..."

Quote: "Dear Mary & Steve, I attach a plan and article for your consideration. Ed's other plans are greats, like Sparky and Zip. Sorry that I don't have a good copy nor do I have a copy of the mag - Feb '47 Air Trails.
Please note the similarity to the Veron Skylark oz3860, the first reference I found was Aeromodeller May 1947, pg.322. A chicken 'n' egg situation? All the best, Adrian."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
