About this Plan

Bereznyakisayev B1. Free flight profile scale model glider for catapult launch. Wingspan 16 in

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "BEREZNYAKISAYEV B1 ROCKET CATAPULT GLIDER 16” SPAN 22 JUN 2023.

WING CONSTRUCTION: The wing is constructed in the “Dimer” style with sheet ribs and 1/16” sq spars over and under the ribs.

FUSELAGE CONSTRUCTION: The fuselage is profile of 4 laminations. The center lam is 1/16 showing the cockpit and vertical fin/rudder. The two outer lams are 3/32” fuselage outline . The nose has two 1/32” ply reinforcement to strengthen for catapult launches. Make sure the slot for the rubber catapult is very smooth so as not to cut the rubber.

EMPENNAGE CONSTRUCTION: The horizontal stab is 1/16” hard balsa with 1/32” ply caps on the tips of the stab. Note the grain on the vertical fin/rudder which slots into the 1/16” center lamination.

Enjoy this catapult glider and be warned these little birds are very contagious and addicting! Like Lay’s Potato chips, bet you can’t build just one catapult glider.

ScaleType: This (oz16298) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bereznyak-Isayev_BI-1
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

With inspiration from Tom Akery's built up wing scale catapult glider here, the same could be done for the Guillows scale profile rubber models. Thanks for the idea Tom.

Shawn,
I can't take credit for the built up wing for catapult gliders. I borrowed the built up wing from the modelers from Flying Aces Club who have been able to get these gliders to fly for over a minute gliding down from their launch.
By the way, CLG's (Catapult Launched Gliders) are highly addictive! In the spirit of Lay's Potato Chips, bet you can't build just one!!!

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
