About this Plan

Beechcraft AT-10L. Free flight scale model for rubber power. Wingspan 16 in.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "BEECH AT-10L 16” SPAN RUBBER POWERED TWIN DRAWN 14 JAN 2022.

This plan was drawn in the Dime Scale style with some changes in the wing construction.

WING CONSTRUCTION: This wing is constructed using the cracked rib construction. It uses two tubulator strips between the main spar and the L.E.

FUSELAGE CONSTRUCTION: The fuselage is built using the box style construction, where the first side is built on the board and the second side is built on the top of the first side. When dry the sides are then built adding the cross members starting at the middle of the fuselage and gradually working toward the tail. Pinning the sides to the board to keep the sides vertical. Typical box construction.

EMPENNAGE CONSTRUCTION: The horizontal stab is built using 1/16” sq and sheet balsa. The vertical surfaces uses the 1/16” sq and sheet balsa construction as well.

ScaleType: This (oz16230) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beechcraft_AT-10_Wichita

For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Hello Tom, the AT-10 "Wichita" is very much on top my favourite unsung heroes off WW.II. Thanks for sharing your design with us! You know they first tested the Vee-tail on the AT-10 that later got famous with the Bonanza?
Cheers, Martin

The "V" tail would be an easy conversion. You'd need to lengthen each panel in length by approximately 20% or so.
Here's a picture of the "V" tail prototype! Thanks for the info.

The Beechcraft Twin Quad also had a V tail. It has an interesting the arrangement of the 4 engines powering the two propellers.

Thanks Tom and Roger! Never heard of the Twin Quad, it looks like a rewardingly elusive project. About the Vee-tail: I hope not to kidnap this thread, but: I once produced a Davis DA-2 for the X-Plane flight simulator which "flew" surprisingly well and close to the original. When I changed it from nose wheel to taildragger configuration things started to go awry. Same thing happened when they tried a Vee-tail on the Bf 109.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
