This aircraft hit two of my aircraft requirements…Float Plane, designed to be launched from a submarine to attack the U.S. If that’s not unusual what do you want!!

WING CONSTRUCTION: David Rees’ sliced rib construction. As you can tell when I build, I go for the wings first. I also use either the cracked rib or the David Rees’ sliced rib style wing construction. This plan used the sliced rib construction. Here’s a link to Mike Stuart’s tutoral on this construction. https://www.ffscale.co.uk/rees.htm

FUSELAGE CONSTRUCTION: The fuselage is constructed using the ladder jig construction technique. Check out the ladder jig on stickandtissue.com site: https://www.stickandtissue.com/forum/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1319793595

As you can tell, I like building wings and now with the ladder style jig fuselages are much more fun to build and keep a straight fuselage.

EMPENNAGE CONSTRUCTION: Horizontal Stab—build flat on the board using 3/32”sq and sheet balsa.
Vertical Fin/Rudder—another “built in the air” – build the outline flat on the board then add the vertical spar to the top of the fin and glue the 1/32”x1/8” ribs at the bottom to hold the spar in place. Then add the additional ribs on each side of the vertical fin/rudder. This gives a more satisfying shape for the the vertical surface.

Check out the Wikipedia article on this aircraft. It was a very interesting design to extend airpower beyond their normal capabilities.

    ScaleType: This (oz16154) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aichi_M6A
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.
    Corrections? Use the correction form to tell us the new/better ScaleType link we should be using. Thanks.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
