About this Plan

Gem. Radio control powered glider model, for electric. Wingspan 2300 mm.

Quote: "Gem, 1949. Designed by Roser Otto. Redrawing by Nojbi, 2024."

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "1949 Hungarian Gém by Ottó Röser. At the 2025 European SAM Champs in Molinella, Italy Norbert Farkas of Hungary presented this model to me. The name Gém is pronounced like the English word game and means Heron.

The color scheme was a closely guarded secret and only revealed when he presented the model to me. It is a delight to fly. Dr. Röser's first name is listed last. It's the Hungarian convention that was frustrating when my luggage was lost enroute to Budapest because the late actor Charles Patrick RYAN O'Neal had popularized the use of his grandmother's maiden name, and my surname, as a given name. So, dressing it up in the livery of Europe's biggest airline had us all laughing. It will be available soon as a laser kit. Tom"

Note supplement alternate plan (the original 1949 free flight design) includes original ribs and formers, at full size.

Supplementary file notes

Alternate plan 1949.

Please provide more information on who is cutting the kits please.
Ken Ball - 19/07/2025
When he commits to doing it, I’ll have him post here. He’s very busy at the moment with a move.
Nevertheless, this PDF may be enough for some cutters.

Please do tom, very interested.

Dear modelers,
for more information, search for the model [Gém] on social site.
Nojbi - 25/07/2025
Tom tells me Norbert is cutting kits now.
Norbert, can you post the link here? Then people can just click straight through to Facebook or wherever. Thanks :)

I found the links
He's justifiably reluctant to have his email address posted on the world wide web. I can understand, I did that once and my email was rendered useless by spam in a very short amount of time

Tom, I was suggesting that Norbert post a link on here to a page somewhere online, so people can get details about the kit. Seems straightforward. Not talking about email.

Saw it in person at the 2026 SAM champs. Fantastic build. Looks like a great plan set as well!

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
